Disneyland was opened in 1955 in Anaheim, California, and today remains one of the most visited theme parks in the world. Filled with rides and attractions for all ages, the original Disneyland has kept up with the times with state-of-the-art technology, however, some of the public's favorite attractions are the old-time rides from the 1950's. The Tea Cups, It's a Small World, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and the Snow White attractions are some of the biggest draws in Fantasyland, popular with kids and adults alike.

First time visitors to the Disneyland might like to start with a circle tour with a bird's eye view of the park. The Monorail attraction runs 360 degrees around the park, stopping frequently in various Disney sections to include the Disneyland Hotel. In addition, remember to pick up a Disney park map to get you where you want to go on the shortest route possible. Some guests prefer a leisurely stroll from the main gate, but others are compelled to cut to the chase to be first in line for action adventure thrill rides.

Pirates of the Caribbean is perhaps the longest line you will encounter, regardless of the time of year you visit Disneyland. The animation, sounds and smell of the old Bayou is a masterpiece of engineering, and not to be missed on your day at the park. Next door, sits the Haunted Mansion, another favorite for your list. The attraction is a half walking tour, half suspended cart ride through a wonderfully wacky haunted house, sporting more fun than spook, thus suitable for young children.

Visitors to the Disneyland theme park should plan to stay at least two days to fully experience the Disney genius and take it all in. The Disneyland Hotel is the handiest accommodation to the park; however, combining your admission tickets to this hotel can be costly. The seasoned Disneyland visitor will seek out a quality accommodation located on the adjacent streets of Katella Ave, Ball Road and Harbor Boulevard, most of which are walking distance to the Disney main gate. In addition, many of the Disneyland satellite hotels provide free shuttle service to the park and sell the Disney merchandise at a lower rate from their gift stores. The bottom line with a Disneyland vacation is to save money when you can, and the Anaheim hotels in the area are on your side when it comes to lodging at the price you want to pay.
